Washington

Rev. Dr. Phillip D. Washington is founder and Executive Director of Vision In Communities (VIC), a non-profit organization founded in 2004. Being in the ministry for over 40 years, Dr. Washington understands up close and personal the assets, wisdom and will to serve community that exist in urban congregations. His passion for community outreach, economic and racial justice and empowerment led him to start Vision In Communities to support, train and partner with urban congregations to take their work beyond the walls of the church. Since becoming Executive Director, Dr. Washington has partnered with congregations to launch summer learning programs for low-income children in the Mt. Clemons, trained over 200 church leaders in developing community outreach efforts, launched economic development programs for low-income families and provided backdoor fiscal and management services for faith-based initiatives and partnerships.

Rev. Washington has a bachelor’s degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita Sate University, a master of divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center at Phillip’s School of Theology and a doctorate of ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio.

Dr. Washington is currently the Presiding Elder of the Detroit and Mid-Michigan Districts of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. In this role, he supervises over 25 CME congregations across the state of Michigan guiding their spiritual growth, sound stewardship and servant leadership to family and communities.
